Just after the Civil War, A. J. (Andrew Jackson) Pendleton moved to
PENDLETON RANCH from Virginia in 1870. He moved to the Gainesville
area to be near his father. A. J. Pendleton lived here until his death in
1901. A.J. Pendleton is buried here on PENDLETON RANCH.

The Son of A.J. Pendleton, Eldridge Haze Pendleton, was in the wild west
shows in the early 1900's. He raised a family on PENDLETON RANCH .

Aside from being the namesake of Gainesville, General To
the left is a clipping from an article in All Around Gaines is
known for arresting former Vice President Arron Burr after
Burr shot Alexander Hamilton in a duel. General Gaines'
full name is General Edmond Pendleton Gaines. We suspect
he is related to A.J. because both men are originally from
Virginia, and it may have played a role in A.J.'s decision to
move to Gainesville.
